Description of Homework Help Questions & Answers

Asking Questions::
  • If  you ever get stuck on a homework problem or have some other questions about class, log in to the chemistry WebBoard, click on the "Homework Help" conference, and post your question.  Your question will instantly be e-mailed to all of the other students in Mr Arrow's Chem I Classes.
    • Be sure to give your posting a title that expresses what you question is about.  "Help" or "hello" are not appropriate titles for your message.
    • Be sure to explain what your question is and tell us what aspect of the question you do not understand.  Do not simply say "I'm stuck on #9, can somebody help me?"
    • Questions about due dates or assignments will not receive any points, but please post these questions anyway so that you can get an answer.
    • Follow the proper use of language in your question.
Answering a Question:
  • Get in the habit of checking your e-mail every night.Any e-mails from __________ are chemistry questions posted on the WebBoard.  Those of you will spam filters may need to add this address to your safe list so that you get the e-mails.
  • You acan answer any question by simply replying to your e-mail.  Your reply will automatically be posted on the WebBoard and e-mailed to everybody.  You do not need to log in to the WebBoard to answer the question. Points will be given to the first 2 people who provide correct answers to the question and any subsequent replies that add significant additional information to the reply.
 
Unsubscribing:
If you ever decide that you no longer want to receive any more "Homework Help" messages, you may unsubscribe by logging in to the WebBoard and clicking on the "more" button and choosing "mailing lists".  Deselect "Homework Help" and click on "Submit"

      • Since web pages do not recognize the TAB  key, I recommend that you hit return twice at the end of each paragraph to make a space as a means to separate one paragraph from another.

  • The question involves clearing up a concept or process related to a howework assignment.  
  • If the question is from a worksheet, the question is written out. 
  • The question has not previously been asked. 
  • Proper use of language is demonstrated 
  • The question has been given an approriate title that describes topic. 

  • Example: Title: Significant Figure....On problem #13 on the Sig Figs worksheet, I am dividing 243.87 grams by 25 liters.  Does the 25 limit my answer to 2 sig figs?
All of the following are noted:
  • The question is not about a chemical concept or process, but about a clarification of the assignment.
  • Proper use of language is demonstrated 

  • Example:  In answering questions # 13 -18 on my scientific notation worksheet, am I suppose to be able to do these with or without a calculator? Example:  How do you do # 13 on the significant figures worksheet?
One of the following are noted:
  • The question asks information about assignment directions that were clearly stated in class. 
  • The same question has been previously asked. 
  • Use of language is inaccurate 

  • Example: What numbers did we have to do on our worksheet for tomorrow?

  • The reply was among the first two to correctly answer and explain the question -or- significantly contributed more information to the previous answers.
  • The question asked was about a chemical concept or process, not an assginment clarification question.
  • Proper use of language is demonstrated
  • Example:  When dividing two numbers, you must look at how many significant figures each number has.  The answer will have as many significant figures as the lowest.  Therefore, since 243.87 has 5 sig figs and 25 has 2, your answer should have 2 sig figs.
All of the following is noted:
  • The reply was among the first two correct answers to the question -or- significantly contributed more information to the previous answers.
  • The reply answered an assignment clarification question as shown above in the  1 point column.
  • Proper use of language is demonstrated
  • Example:  No, we are supposed to be able to do problems such as #13-18 without the use of a calculator.
  • Example: Your answer will have 2 significant figures.
One of the following are noted:
  • The reply (among the first two) was mostly correct but not entirely accurate
  • The question answered was one that merely asked to repeat directions for an assignment (as shown in 0 point column above)
  • Use of language is inaccurate
  • Example: Yo, it seems to me that mr arrow told us to rond to the lowest amount of sig figs.  so the answer should have too.
